1 April 2011 On Friday 1 April 2011, we had the fifith klenengan in the TENTH fiscal year of Klenèngan Pujangga Laras. It was held at the home of Bp. Giarto in Fajar Indah, Solo. It started at 8:00 pm and lasted through to 2:15 am. A new venue for us! Kind of small and cramped though, and audience has to sit in chairs outside, blocking off the small road, as there is no extra floor space. But it is always nice to have the klenèngan in different neighborhoods. Bp. Giarto is an old friend of many of the musicians we all know and have studied with in the past. He was in the first graduating class at Konsèr, but then went on to spend all of his working life in Bengkulu, Sumatra, in the palm oil plantation business. He has recently retired and moved back to Solo, originally being from Wonogiri. He kept his ties through the years though, as he came back once a year to Solo and put on klenèngan, and also put on a few wayang a year in Bengkulu. He himself is also an amateur dhalang, a hobbyist. (Mas Wakidi arranged the first four gendhing, based on a suggestion by Phil Acimovic actually, that perhaps it would be nice to hear some of the pl nem and sl sanga non-ciblon gendhing! Suggestions in programming are always welcome. Whenever a klenèngan gets planned at the last minute, it’s sometimes hard to find someone willing to prepare the list, and mas Wakidi ends up doing it in that case.
